FieldMate's integrated DTM Works is a so called FDT-frame application (or FDT container). FDT (Field Device Tool) is an open interface specification for integrating any field device, from any device manufacturer to any digital communications protocol in a PC or control system. FDT/DTM technology is not a new fieldbus type of protocol, but is complementary to existing protocols. FDT/DTM describes an open plug-and-play technology. Besides the FDT-frame application there are two other key elements, a device DTM (Device Type Manager) and a communication DTM. The communication DTM connects the frame application to the field devices during engineering, monitoring, calibrating and maintaining the field devices. The device DTM is a device specific software module and encapsulates all the device specific data, functions and HMI structure. The interface to the frame application is standard as is the interface between the device DTM and communication DTM.
